To the students, parents, faculty and staff at WOISD.
As you know, we continue to work toward the completion of our roofing and construction projects in all areas of the district. We are looking forward to moving into the Middle School Science Labs and Athletic Field House in the next two weeks and our roofing projects are over 90% complete. The High School Science labs are still several weeks away from completion but I am confident that you will be pleased with the finished product in all areas of the district.
We are getting close, but we are not there yet. The real purpose for this message is to let you know that we are aware of the inconveniences (A/C problems) still occurring through out the district. Some of the issues are caused by equipment not replaced during the bond work shutting down and many of the issues deal with the process of getting the new equipment “dialed in” properly. Yesterday, we had a brand new, very large, piece of equipment break down during final inspection.
All this to say, we are working with our construction partners to correct and eliminate these problems as fast and efficiently as possible. These problems are concerning to us and nothing is being ignored or taken lightly. All issues will be addressed and solved. This project is designed to extend the life of the district’s facilities for another 20 years. With that in mind, we will overcome a few weeks of challenges to meet that final goal.
I want to thank you for your patience during this process. I want to let the community know that your educational staff is doing an outstanding job of working around these challenges to ensure your children are getting the quality instruction they deserve and I want to express my gratitude to all the students, faculty and staff for digging in and making the start to the 2018/2019 school year a success despite the challenges they face.
Tomorrow is the first day of school! We are so excited at WOPS! We know this is going to be a fantastic year. Here are a few reminders about the beginning of school:
- The doors will open at 7:30 a.m.
- At the beginning of the year, we are all teaching routines and procedures throughout the building. One very important place we teach those routines is the cafeteria. We ask that you please not eat lunch with your child until after September 4th.
- Please be patient and understanding as our car pick-up line will be lengthy at the beginning of the year.
- All vehicles must have a car tag to pick up a child. Two car tags were sent home with all students at Meet the Teacher.
All of us at White Oak Primary look forward to seeing you at Meet the Teacher tomorrow afternoon, August 14th, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Please bring your school supplies with you and enjoy a time of meeting your child’s teacher and seeing familiar faces!
In-person registration for Primary and Intermediate students will be held this Thursday and Friday. Online registration through Skyward must be completed before students will receive teacher placement. You must bring a current proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement) to register.
RETURNING students Kindergarten through 5th grade will register Thursday, August 2nd, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. If your child attended Kindergarten Round-up, they are considered a returning student and will register this day.
NEW students PreK through 5th grade will register Friday, August 3rd, from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Please bring a certified birth certificate (that comes from the court house, not the hospital), social security card, current shot records, report card from previous school (1st through 5th), and a current proof of residency.
Boys and Girls Club sign-up for this school year will be held at registration on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Ages: Kindergarten through 5th Grade (no PreK, middle school or high school students)
Time: 3:00-6:00 pm
Location: Elementary cafeteria, gym, and playground
Fee: $25 registration fee per child (must be paid before a student can start)
$75 per month per child (due on the 1st of each month)
There is a fee assistance based on income. You must provide your 2017 tax papers for your fee assistance amount to be determined.
Snack will be provided. You may send your child their own drink.
Our projected start date is the first Monday after school starts, August 20th. We must have at least 50 students signed up to be allowed to start on this date.

Online Registration opens today (July 23, 2018) for returning students. Online Registration must be completed before teacher placement/schedules will be given at In Person Registration. Go to http://www.woisd.net and click on the Skyward link on the website homepage to access the login page for Skyward Family Access.
At least one parent must attend In Person Registration for Intermediate and Primary students on Thursday, August 2 (8:30 am – 5:00 pm). In Person Registration will be much quicker if all steps of Online Registration are completed for each student before In Person Registration.
For those who don’t have access to a computer to complete Online Registration, computers will be available at In Person Registration.
